Avant-garde music is experimental music that pushes the boundaries of tradition and convention, characterized by innovative and daring exploration of new sounds, techniques, and forms. Originating from the French term "advance guard," the concept refers to being at the forefront of musical innovation, often challenging audiences with unconventional approaches and questioning what can be considered music. While sometimes associated with composers like John Cage and the post-World War II era, the term can also refer to any music that deconstructs conventional structures and instrumentation to achieve originality.
